NEW ARTICLE SERIES: FIGHTING COVID-19

I am currently working on a new series called Fighting Covid-19. This series will highlight people within the Muay Thai/fighting/martial arts community who are helping combat COVID-19. They are doing it in any number of ways, including, but not limited to: their profession  using their platform to share news and information putting their non-medical skills to use to help in assisting those in healthcare I already have a couple of people that I will start writing about. Expect the articles to come out soon, maybe even by later today! If you know anyone within the community who deserves to be known for what they’re doing, please send me an e-mail to muayyingac@gmail.com, or send me a message on any of the social media platforms for this blog: IG | FB. In your e-mail or message, please include what sport(s) they’re involved in and what they are currently doing.

FIGHTER SPOTLIGHT: Brooke Farrell & “The Fighting Farrell’s”

When Brooke visited Thailand with her husband, Eddie, in 2015 for a training holiday, they met some people that were in the country for a few months. These people focused on just training and fighting, and they thought, “That’s awesome!”  But the young couple had obligations and responsibilities back home in Australia – a business, phone plans, a car, and two dogs. “Too much stuff,” says Brooke. However, they couldn’t stop thinking about the possibilities and what it would be like to be full time professional fighters living in Thailand, simply by giving up what they had and by choosing that lifestyle. The thought of that dream nagged them until they started taking steps to making it a reality. They sold their business, all their “stuff”, and took their dogs, Sage and Poppy, with them to Thailand.

FIGHTER SPOTLIGHT: Yolanda Schmidt

The face of a fighter comes in many forms, and is something nobody can ever categorize or make pre-judgments about accurately. Yolanda Schmidt, the most recent winner of the Muay Thai Angels tournament, proves just that. “The stereotype that I am not feminine based on the sport I partake in, was once one of my biggest struggles. I constantly had to justify why I enjoyed such a ‘violent’ sport when I am such a happy, smiley and bubbly person,” says the world champion.

ABOUT US

Muay Ying is the first platform to focus on fighters that don’t get the attention they deserve, namely women fighters. Founded in 2016, this site was born out of frustration when finding inclusive and high quality news about professional fighters.

In addition to news and fight updates, Muay Ying provides information on training in Thailand, advice on how to prepare and sustain yourself during your trip, among many other topics. If there’s a topic you’d like to read more about, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Muay Ying also has chats with notable members in the Muay Thai community in Podcast form. You can find us on your favorite Podcast platform.

WHAT IS MUAY THAI?

มวยไทย
Thai boxing
The art of eight limbs

No matter what you call it, this sport has changed lives.

Driven by economical means in Thailand, children from poorer regions of the country start training and fighting to help support their families.

This sport with humble beginnings has grown exponentially all over the world. Although most non-Thais do not fight as an economical means, their passion for the sport has helped pave the way for Muay Thai to become profitable on the international scene.
